Hey, what’s up, hellooooo everyone and welcome back! In today’s post I want to touch on the importance of not just counting your blessings, but really recognizing the things, people and opportunities you *currently* have.
This is something I have thought about a lot recently, as I slowly but surely prepare to head back to school and have been literally counting down the days. Of course I can’t wait to go back and be with my friends, move into my new apartment, and get back into the swing of things — but, I can’t act like what I’m currently doing isn’t something to appreciate. I mean, lounging at the pool, being with friends and family and having a steady job can be just as rewarding as those things are in AZ!
What I’m trying to say is, we as a society, species even, often overlook our current blessings, waiting for the next “big thing”. It’s so unfortunate that we actually, mentally miss out on things we’re currently doing because we’re so consumed with what’s to come. If you really think about it, if we spent half the time counting our current blessings as we do waiting for more, we would be much happier, a lot of the time.
Whether it be just appreciating the fact that you have a good, steady job, or a nice family to come home to, appreciate those small things. Count your *current* blessings always, and THEN start looking forward to the new things.
So, make your own sense of this, and think about the things you might be overlooking, those things that you don’t really give proper recognition to at the moment. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t be looking forward to future endeavors, but more to both live in and appreciate the moment.
Like the great Andy Bernard says in the final episode of The Office, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in ‘the good old days’ before you’ve actually left them”.
And with that, I’ll leave you with this thought –
Remember when you wanted what you currently have?
Thank you so much for your continued support and for reading today’s post! I hope you enjoyed it and maybe even gained something! Remember to count your current blessings – you guys are one of mine!
